If you have been doing all stated in our previous Improved Search Engine Ranking steps, you now should have :
- a website about 1 of your skills or passions
- you managed to translate your skill or passion into keywords people are looking for
- you wrote a title containing keywords people are looking for
Now you are ready to do some nifty HTML coding
Why do I need metatags?
Because the description meta tag turns up in the description of your web page in the Google search results!

- = title meta tag
- = description meta tag
What are meta tags?
- Meta tag is text the search engines read before they start reading the content of your website.
- Meta tags is text you have added yourself into the HTML code of your website
How do meta tags look like?
You find meta tags in your html code, above your real content (that is outside and above the <body> tag) between your:
<head>
……………………………………………………….
</head> tags.
The most important tags for improved search engine rankings are :
- the description meta tag and
- the keywords meta tag
