What are good meta tags?

There are some rules of thumb when it comes to writing metatags. And of course you need your HTML right.

The correct placement for meta tags is between the <HEAD> and </HEAD> tags of your webpage. Modern day spiders love to read human readable text, so put your description before your keywords.

The correct length of your meta tags should be :

  • keywords meta tag: less than 14 words
  • description meta tag: less than 250 characters including spaces
  • your website title should be between 50-80 characters long.
